Sloths have been showing up in commercials, movies and books in recent years, like Zootopia.
Officer Judy Hops and Nick Wild head to the DMV and all of the employees are sloths.
However, Como Zoo and Conservatory in Saint Paul has long had such a celebrity.
In the tropical encounters enclosure, nestled between birds, tortoises and turtles, lies Chloe, a Hoffman’s two-toed sloth born in the Jacksonville Zoo.
Chloe came to the Como Zoo when she was one year old. She is always found in her tree, coming down for zookeeper talks and educational sessions.
Sloths sleep for an average of twenty hours a day and move .17 miles per hour when threatened.
Despite being slow-moving, visitors are always quick to visit Chloe.
“I really like them. I know a lot of people think they are smelly but I don’t really care because they are adorable,” Max Stoen said.
“Yeah, Chloe’s a cute name,” Zaire Sweatte said.
I reached out to Chloe for a comment but she was preoccupied.
One of the zookeepers told me Chloe is turning 21 in August. Sloths can live for 30 or more years in captivity so Chloe still has a long life ahead of her.
