Annie’s Parlour Reopens

It’s been four years since Annie’s Parlour closed during the pandemic, but that all changed this February.

The restaurant initially opened on January 16 for takeout malts and shakes only from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., but it officially opened for dine-in on February 22 with the same evening hours.

While the restaurant was closed, the owners took the opportunity to renovate some interior details including an updated kitchen.

John Rimarcik first opened Annie’s 50 years ago in 1974. Rimarcik owned multiple historic businesses including the Kitty Cat Klub which sits right below Annie’s and is still closed. Rimarcik died in December, but his two sons decided to move forward with the restaurant’s reopening this spring.

University of Minnesota students make up a majority of Dinkytown locals, but most current students have not been able to go to Annie’s Parlour since starting college.

Lauren Rova is a junior at UMN and used to go to Annie’s with her dad, but by the time she was a freshman, it was closed for business.

“It was kind of a bummer to not have it on campus when I was first going here,” said Rova.

Theta DalCerro hadn’t heard about Annie’s Parlour before starting school in 2022 but says she’s eager to check it out.

“I’ve been waiting and hoping and praying that it would open again because it just looks so cute,” said DalCerro.

As of right now, the menu is more limited than it used to be, serving only burgers, fries, onion rings, chicken tenders and malts, but you can still choose between 14 different malt flavors.

Since reopening, Annie’s prices have increased to reflect the current economy, so if you’re planning to bring 20 dollars to get a burger, fries and shake, you may want to check the menu ahead of time to make sure you have enough.

As of Wednesday, Annie’s has extended its hours, now opening at noon instead of 4:00 p.m., giving patrons even more time to indulge in their favorite eats.
